Hospitals around the world have used Hibiscrub® antimicrobial skin cleanser for over 45 years to manage infection. This cleanser is used for various purposes, including pre-operative surgical hand disinfection, antiseptic hand washing on the ward, and pre- and post-operative skin antisepsis for patients undergoing elective surgery.

With 4% w/v chlorhexidine gluconate, Hibiscrub is effective against a broad spectrum of microbes, including gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria, yeast, fungi, and viruses. It reduces bacterial load more efficiently than povidone iodine and has been shown to decrease the risk of hospital-associated S aureus infections by up to 60% when used in combination with a nasal antibiotic.

Hibiscrub forms a protective layer on the skin and kills bacteria within one minute, remaining effective for up to six hours after application. It is not absorbed into the skin but binds to it, making it different from povidone iodine, which can be inactivated by bodily fluids.

Hibiscrub has been dermatologically tested and proven to be gentle on the skin, even with frequent use. Repeated application of Hibiscrub has been shown to increase its antimicrobial efficacy. It is versatile and can be used in various infection control protocols, acting fast with a long-lasting effect of up to six hours while remaining gentle on the skin and tough on microbes.
